Acid Reflux or Heartburn can be due to many reasons like being over weight, being a chain smoker, having eaten lot of spicy food recently or due to the condition of hiatal hernia. Most people experience Acid Reflux when their esophagus is not able to constrict properly due to which food is not swallowed properly leading to the acid laced food coming back to the esophagus thereby damaging the lining of the food pipe. In case you are having the pain of Acid Reflux then here are a few ways which will immediately treat the pain from Heartburn.
- Chewing gum: Your saliva has the great tendency to act as an acid buffer. Chewing gum will send down a lot of saliva into your esophagus providing relief in a few minutes.
- Baking soda: Being alkaline in nature it neutralizes the acid in your stomach providing relief immediately. Take it with half a glass of water. It won't taste great but provides instant relief with no side effects.
- Vegetable juices: Take vegetable juice of vegetables like carrot, radishes and beet. These are alkaline in nature and will neutralize the acid stomach just like baking soda does.
- Aloe Vera: Aloe Vera is famous for its anti inflammatory properties and that is why it is highly used in sun creams too. But it can be used for internal burns too like Heartburn. Drink half cup of Aloe Vera. Do remember that this is also a laxative so unless you have a toilet nearby fow hours be sure to buy the laxative free power.
- Inclined posture: Acid Reflux happens because the acid in your stomach is able to reach back to the food pipe. To avoid this, go to sleep only after 2-3 hours of your last meal. Also, when you sleep, have something 4-6 tall below your head like a book or some wooden object. Don't pile up on too much otherwise you will be having back pain in the morning.
- Milk: Calcium in the milk with help neutralize the acid of your stomach and for longer relief you can take milk based ice cream which will also cool your esophagus.
- Apple cider vinegar: Acid Reflux is majority of the time is due to lack of acid production in your stomach than the enough of it. The lower esophageal sphincter closes off when the acid is processing the food in the stomach. However, when the acid level is low the LES decides to rest and opens up leading to acids from stomach coming up. So, for improve the acid concentration in your stomach, before the mean take Apple cider vinegar. Try this once and see if it prevents your Acid Reflux.
- Banana or Apple: Banana has anti-acid properties. Take ripen banana after your meal. Or, eat one apple before you go to bed after the meal.
- Loosen your tight fittings: If you are wearing tight fitting clothes especially around the abdomen region then that could be fueling your Acid Reflux. This would put pressure on your stomach sending the food back to the food pipe.
- Mustard: Mustard is alkaline in nature and is full of many other nutrients too. It would not taste too good but would provide you fast relief from Acid Reflux or Heartburn.
